Designed for BLUESIDE Emotional Design, Astemio is a transparent glass vase with a curious shape, just like its creative history. Astemio was born from a fortuitous error in proportions in the design of a decanter intended to enhance the best notes of a full-bodied wine.
Despite, or perhaps thanks to, its technical irregularity, the shape inspired a singular grace, naturally hyperbolic, as often happens in the projects of the two authors, who share an innate sense of balance, sometimes bordering on paradox, other times absolute abstraction.
Precisely because of its extravagant soul that transcends function to approach other universes of meaning, the project becomes a real object and intertwines its history with the Italian tradition of mouth-blown glass.
Made of borosilicate 3.3 – the purest, most transparent and thermal shock-resistant glass – and hand-forged by master glassmakers, Astemio adds the uniqueness of its artisanal essence to the particularity of its design.
Thus, partly by chance, partly by creative challenge, it finds itself telling the story of the relationship, sometimes unpredictable, between functionality, form and beauty. It is a vase to hold a flower, a collector's glass, an extravagant magic ampoule... it can have a thousand lives. It has this name because, quite simply, wine was not in its destiny.
